Farmers Market Wrap Up 2012

We have had our last local Farmer's Market for 2012.
Time for a rest until late January, 2013,  the 5BN children have shovelled enough sheep poo, bagged enough wheat, collected and sold enough eggs to have earnt a spell.
The endless straight sewing of heat packs and door stops can wait until cooler weather.
We will all have a breather until the next Australia Day long weekend, meanwhile the children have enough customers to keep delivering to; over their school holidy break.

Farmers Market restocking

We are restocking for the Natimuk Farmers Market this Sunday
9 - 10 am commencement  ----  1pm finish
tonight after school -- it is all about the Reindeer Noses,  much taste testing ensured all the product met  quality control standards!

Reindeer Noses

Doorstops needing to be replenished, very challenging when the fabric is cut way off skew = another trip into town before the end of the week to be able to cut and sew bases for the doorstops,  = also to fill them with the gravel.

more photos to follow of the last Market =  Melbourne Cup weekend
Hope to see you all there this Sunday + do say hello

Kids will be bagging wheat and sheep poo after school this week, they are struggling to keep up with repeat orders for regular, local customers.  They do appreciate all the support and business put their way.

Market Day Again

Heat Packs to keep us toastie and warm
Door Stops to stop the banging of doors

A few home days, and I seem to be sewing for the kids.

The boys are delighted, beginning to have repeat customers for the chook wheat. One regional stock agent telephoned through the week - to order mulptiple bags of the chook wheat - to onsell in his Merchandise component of the Stock Agents.  No complaints from the boys, the chap will collect today-- may even throw in a wheat/heat pack to keep him happy.
Another local market today, so the boys have bagged a tonne and a half of wheat-- hope it all is sold today after their mammonth efforts in wieghing and bagging.

Miss 5BN and I have been sewing more heat packs, door stops, and also draught stoppers.
With the cooler start to winter, maybe the draught stoppers may be the ticket item today.

Sewing at my house this evening, so will need to vacuum up the loose grains of wheat, and prioritise projects of mine.

Keep warm and enjoy the long weekend.

It's a BOY

I am a Great Aunt again,--- Patrick James arrived on Anzac Day to my wonderful nephew and his lovely wife. I asked them for ideas and orders for the baby gift, they have a 3yo boy , and 2yo girl as well.
A name bag -- to carry quilts, clothes, bunny rugs, bibs, toys, nappies; -  the older siblings have their own name bags as well.
Another Anzac day baby for the family, this will make three generations who will now celebrate their birthday on this day.

Our children still are using their name bags as swim / sports bags,--  bags to take on sleep overs. Each child packs their own and is responsible for their own bag and belongings.
Name / Nappy Bag

Michael Miller  - retro Transit Transportation fabric

Obligatory books as gifts
two Australian Authors  -- the uniquely Australian Banjo Patterson's 'Waltzing Matilda', and John Heffernan's 'Two Summers"   both favourite reading matter for our children when they were younger.

A CAT in the HAT Doorstop for young PAT!

Miss 5BN has been busy sewing fabric into doorstops for the next local farmer's market. New baby Patrick will be able to test run a doorstop!!  I am sure he will be able to acknowledge this in fine form!  As long as 3yo Sam the older brother does not realise it may be a weapon - filled with rice!

Careful cutting
Doorstops in the making.

Line them up carefully

Concentrate well

All in a queue to chain piece

Tops all finished and pegged in Cheerleader CHA CHA style!

Need to sew the bases to these dozen, and fill with gravel.

Off now to wrap baby Patrick's gift, by chance I need to go to Melbourne for work/study tomorrow, so will be able to meet baby Patrick, and hopefully have a cuddle and inhale that special new baby smell.

Farmers Market Again

The boys have been shovelling Sheep Poo -- or  Ewe Doo!
as one witty local calls it! ThanksAmber!  Those keen gardeners in the local community are happy to purchase -- saves their back from bending under the grating in the shearing shed shovelling poo, and our lot are happy with repeat customers!  Who knew! - but You Do!  ( apologies to Suess!)
All keen at their first market 2011  Child labour in force,
and for the keen eyed amongst you  --  colour coded!!

After extensive market research and a customer satisfaction survey occured around the dinner table, our lot decided to expand their operation.  They decided to bag up smaller quantities of wheat  - 6kg - to be precise, to suit those people who had only a few chooks in the back yard.  This has proven to be a winner  -- literally the bags of wheat are walking off their stall - or in fact - old fashioned customer service is still in existence - and it is carried to the car for the happy recipient.  Well done children!
Wheat bagged and weighed - 6kg!

Yet again, more market research revealed a niche market for heat packs. Good thinking children - but who was to make these!!
Enlist the youngest 5BN learning to comandeer / sew on the trusty Janome. How better to learn, then by sewing metres or kilometres of straight stitching.!
Materials at the ready for the heat packs.
The lavender was purchased at the recent local Field Days.
We have been adding lemon myrtle recently to other heat packs for a fresh scent. Not all the customers like the sweetness of lavender to mask the smell of the wheat.

Miss 5BN and the heat packs ready to be filled.
The next Farmers Market will be on Easter Sunday, April 8th.

Whilst in town, make sure to visit the 97 yo renovated Catholic Church.
Grand Opening will be between 10am - 1.30 pm on Easter Sunday.

Sally has spent the past 12 months renovating it into self contained accomodation  -- using all our local tradies.  Well done Sally!!

I can't wait to see the changes, all our children have been baptised in this church, our older 5BN made his Communion/Confirmation here as well. I remember going to the Church extremely early the third Sunday in July 2003 to turn the heaters on-- trying to put some heat in the building before Miss 5BN was to be baptised later that morning.  Apologies for increasing the heating bill that quarter!
