Pink Lovehearts

This smocked dress is on its way west, across our vast country to Perth, Australia.  Miss M the new owner will be wearing it to a wedding,  Miss M is just beginning to crawl, I made matching bloomers, and showed Miss M's Mum how to tuck the front of the dress into the bloomers -- enabling Miss M to crawl, without the need to faceplant onto the floor--when she became caught on the hem of the dress.




Triple Love

I have lost count of the times I have smocked this design, always a favourite request.  The dress is 100% cotton - soft pink with a very fine windowpane check detail.  Just gorgeous.

Whip stitch piping adds an interesting detail to the piped yoke, collar and sleeve cuffs.

A tucked sewn hem is a quick finish,  as well as adding detail to the gorgeous dress.

I hope to have photos of Miss M in all her finery at the family wedding - interstate.

Holiday Fund

50c per Swear!

 

 

 

Miss 5BN has been making a swear jar for the boys in the family.  Already fines have been given out, and the guilty parties have contributed to the fund, the monies are hidden by Miss 5BN quickly.
Miss 5BN is dreaming of how the money will be spent on our next holiday!  We are yet to decide when and where this next holiday will be.
For now, the surveillance will continue, the males in the household are being followed, a greater interest is being taken in their conversation and language skills than ever before!

Protective Pouch

The computer is home again after 3 weeks in the workshop.  I am not convinced that it is working to top quality standards - however.
In town yesterday morning, killing time whilst Miss5BN was at dance practise, I decided to investigate the "Saturday Only Sale" that one electronic chain store was having. I quickly bought an external hard drive- to store data from the computer - should it malfunction again. 

Today, I decided to make a pouch to contain the hard drive.  Using the lovely pouch that Kristine has made as my guide --- I then raided the stash and made myself one.

I may use a metal snap to close the pouch, our hair elastics were waaay too thick and chunky for this little project, yet I loved Kristine's innovative closure on her pouch.

Sewing again

My machine is back and functioning, the first piece of sewing was to make a baby blanket for a new baby girl.  Hot pink minkee blanket, backed with a pink and ivory toile - of children playing, and the bullion rose to finish the monogrammed heart.

A Walk in the Woods

Mrs LG has been busy sewing away, I quickly snapped these photos this morning of this gorgeous quilt,  the pattern is Wild Thing from Camille Roskelley of Thimbleblossoms.



Pattern is Wild Thing.

The greys and reds were selected from a layer cake of A Walk in the Woods,   the neutral backgrouind fabric is an ivory homespun from Ballarat Patchwork.

Binding is blog finished! Yet to be hand sewn on.

 Gorgeous quilting by the wonderful Mrs WB,-- who always works her quilting magic on the quilts.

 

 

To go into the present cupboard for a special niece or nephew. Lucky recipient indeed.

Appliance Malfunctions

This week is rapidly becoming very very expensive.
The trusty Janome was brewing up for a service - beginning to sound clunky - but has now clunked to a halt this week.
The element in the oven has gone defunct
The hard drive in the reasonably new laptop has gone into overdrive and now stopped.

I have packed up the sewing machine and arranged for it to be couried away for a service.
The computer hard drive is being replaced under warranty - but - staff at the local computer shop did reassure me, they need me to bring in a copy of the warranty.  Apparently the shop can't find its copy of the warranty - but have assured me, they realise the computer is still under warranty - but can't find it on their computer system!!  Confusing -- No!!
I have ordered a new element for the oven, postage for an element is the same cost as the freight cost of the sewing machine.
I can only hope our local Post Master hands me the oven element with as much care and reverence
as the photo below - I would expect nothing less - knowing the cost of the postage.

And totally unrelated to anything at all.  How excited was I to encounter two echidnas crossing the road - nose to tail - apparently part of the courtship process, with the male ambling behind.

We stopped to watch them crossing- with me telling the 5BN children how fortunate they were to witness the two together.  We have only seen solitary echidnas ambling on their own previously.

Nilly Scarves

I have been a fan of the wonderful items made by Nilly Design.  Having bought a couple of her scarves made from the softest linen, and exquisite Liberty of London tana lawn, --I decided Miss 5BN needed her own school scarf.

Into the mail- I posted off some remnants of the woollen winter school skirt, and in very nearly return mail - back came a completed linen and school skirt scarf!   Trying saying that quickly!!
